The Instituto Nacional de Innovación y Transferencia en Tecnología Agropecuaria de Costa Rica (INTA), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the European Union (through the Regional Program for Research and Innovation in Agricultural Value Chains, PRIICA), the Colombian Presidential Agency of International Cooperation (APC), and CLAYUCA Corporation, conducted the “International Workshop on agribusiness and added value of cassava in the framework of the South - South and Caribbean Cooperation”.

The event aims to help technical groups working with cassava in the Caribbean region (Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, Suriname, Dominican Republic, Grenada) and technical groups that are participating in the regional network of PRIICA (Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama), and Colombia, acquiring new knowledge, information and specialized techniques and experiences, on modern technologies for the cassava crop, (Manihot esculenta Crantz), that could support the efforts under implementation to add value, diversify markets improve the competitiveness and sustainability of cassava value chain in the Latin American and Caribbean Region.

Activities were directed at selected groups of technical personnel, from public and private entities, that are currently working on the processes of incorporation, evaluation and adaptation of modern technologies of production, processing and utilization of cassava in their respective countries, and that from their institutional position, can exert a multiplier effect of their activities, transferring the knowledge acquired during the workshop to groups of producers and other actors in the value chain. The event was held from November 30 to December 4, 2015 in Los Diamantes (Guápiles) Experimental Station, and in some cassava productive areas located in the north of Costa Rica (San Carlos).
