XVI Congress of the Brazilian Cassava Society and Study Tour on Cassava Technologies. Foz de Iguacu, Brazil, November 03 to 13, 2015

Brazil is the most developed cassava producing countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region, and is also one of the top three most important cassava producing countries in the world. The cassava value chain in Brazil has obtained a great level development with good integration among the different actors. There exists a Cassava Brazilian Society organized more than 30 years ago, and every two years, they organize a Congress that congregates a large number of cassava producers, processors, researchers, policy-makers, equipment and machinery constructors, academy, etc.

This year, the XVI Congress will be held, in the city of Foz de Iguazu, State of Parana, South of Brazil. CLAYUCA has been invited to participate in the event, with the additional task of helping to make a call to the different cassava sectors in the other countries of Latin America and the Caribbean, to attend the meeting and express the importance and priority that the cassava crop has in each country. The participation in this event will allow the members of the Promotor Groups to have direct contacts with one of the most developed countries in relation to modern technologies for cassava production, processing and utilization. The Cassava Congress will be held during the period November 09 to 13, 2015.

Complementary to the participation in this event, the agenda designed will include a Study Tour in which the participants will have the opportunity to visit modern, commercial scale processing plants for cassava starch, and cassava flour, technologies for management of effluents with conversion to biogas, agricultural research institutions, factories producing diversified products for use in diverse markets, with inclusion of cassava, and farmers planting cassava on commercial scale, with high level of mechanization. The Study Tour will be conducted between the period November 03 to 08, 2015.

As part of the agenda to be covered, there will be work sessions during which the representatives of each Promotor Group will present the second draft of the Action Plan proposed for promoting the development of the cassava crop in each country.
