XVI Congress of the Brazilian Cassava Society and Study Tour on Cassava Technologies. Foz de Iguacu, Brazil, November 03 to 13, 2015

Brazil is the most developed cassava producing countries in Latin America and the Caribbean region, and is also one of the top three most important cassava producing countries in the world. The cassava value chain in Brazil has obtained a great level development with good integration among the different actors. There exists a Cassava Brazilian Society organized more than 30 years ago, and every two years, they organize a Congress that congregates a large number of cassava producers, processors, researchers, policy-makers, equipment and machinery constructors, academy, etc.

The Instituto Nacional de Innovación y Transferencia en Tecnología Agropecuaria de Costa Rica (INTA), the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA) and the European Union (through the Regional Program for Research and Innovation in Agricultural Value Chains, PRIICA), the Colombian Presidential Agency of International Cooperation (APC), and CLAYUCA Corporation, conducted the “International Workshop on agribusiness and added value of cassava in the framework of the South - South and Caribbean Cooperation”.

This event was designed with the main objective of allowing the members of the promotor group, in the five countries, to obtain a first-hand knowledge of the cassava production and processing systems that are been used currently in Jamaica. Recently, a cassava processing plant for the production of refined cassava flour for use in human consumption was donated to the Government of Jamaica, by the Government of Colombia, and the plant will start operation in the next coming weeks.
